Coronavirus (covid-19) – job support scheme (jss) [incl updated jss open + jss closed]
October 22, 2020
The Government recently announced the details of the replacement for the current Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) (‘furlough’) scheme, which is due to close for Employers at the end of October 2020. The Job Support Scheme (JSS) is a much reduced ‘furlough’ support scheme but will be available for businesses from November 2020 through to 2021.
Subsequently a number of changes to the JSS were announced as a result of the potential national and local ‘lockdowns’ that may be likely during the Winter months (see separate blog). These expansions and changes to the original scheme relate to businesses that, are either required to close due to COVID-19 restrictions (JSS Closed) or are moved to a more restrictive Tier level (JSS Open).
Below we outline the main criteria and key issues for Employers in respect of the various aspects of the JSS scheme.
