A sakura guide to the next phase of companies house reforms

A Sakura Guide to the Next Phase of Companies House Reforms

November 18, 2025

As you may already know, Companies House is rolling out mandatory identity verification for directors and people with significant control (PSCs) from 18 November 2025

This is a key part of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act, aimed at improving transparency and trust in the UK business environment.

At Sakura, we’re committed to keeping our clients informed and compliant with the changes being introduced as part of the ECCT Act in 2025 and into 2026 and 2027.

Here’s what you need to know about the next phase of reforms—and how we’ll support you every step of the way.

What’s Happening Now?

From 18 November 2025:

  • New directors and PSCs must verify their identity before incorporation or appointment.
  • Existing directors must confirm they’ve verified their identity when submitting their next confirmation statement.
  • Existing PSCs will need to verify their identity based on their role and registration details.

Verification can be done:

  • Directly via GOV.UK One Login (free and quick)
  • Through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) like Sakura

Once verified, individuals receive a personal code from Companies House, which must be used when completing any future filing of forms or other information.

What’s Coming Next?

The reforms don’t stop at ID checks. Here’s what’s on the horizon:

  1. Future phases of reform by Companies House

will include changes to and/or enhanced verification with further guidance expected in 2026 for

  1. Corporate directors
  2. Limited partnerships
  3. Corporate members of LLPs
  4. Officers of corporate PSCs

2. Stricter Filing Rules

  • Unverified individuals will not be able to file on behalf of companies.
  • Acting as a director without verification will become an offence.

3. Improved Register Accuracy

  • Companies House will check the information submitted to Companies House as well as the accuracy of information in company accounts, with the aim of reducing fraud, improving accuracy and boosting confidence in the value of details of UK businesses on the register.

What This Means for Sakura Clients

We’re here to make this transition smooth and stress-free:

  • We’re already an ACSP, so we can verify identities on your behalf.
  • We’ll track your deadlines and notify you when action is needed.
  • We’ll handle confirmation statements and ensure your filings are compliant.
  • We’ll support new appointments and help you navigate the new rules.

These reforms are a positive step toward a more transparent and secure business environment. While the changes may seem complex, Sakura is here to guide you through them with clarity, confidence, and compliance.

At Sakura, we’re here to help you navigate these decisions with confidence and compliance.
